Welcome to Our Stories! We're glad you found us. We promise to not only read your story--we promise to give you a customized review about your short story. That's what we do at Our Stories, it's a little different--we hope you like it. If you've submitted with us before, simply log in on the left and submit your work. If not, below you'll find some guidelines to help you through the process.
Best of luck,

Submission Guidelines |
- All submissions are sent using the form below the guidelines if you do not already have an account.
- Get your work ready in a Microsoft Word Document. This is important, we only accept stories in a .doc/x format.
- Your short story should be less than 7,000 words. Anything less than 7,000 is cool. During our Flash Fiction contest stories considered should be under 1,000 words.
- We accept simultaneous submissions but ask that you manually withdraw your submission as soon as you receive word that you are accepted elsewhere.
- Unless we're running a contest, only one submission per quarter. Seriously, only one--it's the only way we can provide feedback to every submission.
- Our Stories is an online publication and publishes on a quarterly basis. The Best of Our Stories Volume 1 & 2 is now in print and Volume 3 coming in the Spring of 2010.
- We do not accept novel excerpts at this time.
- Yup, flash fiction is fine.
- Nope, we don't publish poetry.
- Please, no genre fiction.
- Every quarter we publish between four and six stories.

The Cost
|
Payment
- For our Richard Bausch Award and the Emerging Writer
Award we
pay $400 to the winner, $50 for second place and will choose 2-4 finalists who will
also have their contest & review
fees refunded. During our Flash Fiction contest we pay $150 for the winner of the Gordon Award and 3-5 authors will have their fees returned. During the open submission periods we unfortunately cannot pay our authors at this time.
- In event your story is accepted elsewhere, unfortunately you cannot replace your story with another.
- Everyone and we mean everyone who submits will receive a customized review of their work with suggestions for another draft. So, if you don't win this time, we'll help you win next time. Don't just submit to other journals, learn to receive something for your money.
|
- If we choose to publish your work, we retain publishing
rights for the quarter that we publish your work in Our Stories. We also reserve the right to publish
your work in the "Best of Our Stories"
